Firm Foundation

Brick Foundation

Filling and compacting the foundation with "marum" or dirt

How many men does it take to push a mixer up a hill?
And Ben said this was the smaller of two they pushed it up,
after it flipped out of the back of the truck

Ben's homemade bull float

He was very proud of it!

Lookin Good

Ben worked very hard today pouring the concrete slab for the school. He schooled some Ugandan workers in American concrete techniques. Here they put a smooth finish layer on the concrete after the first layer has set up. This results in cracking and air pockets between the layers. Ben had to make his own bull float because they are not heard of here.  He is pretty sure the workers were talking about him while he was creating his tool, but by the end of the day they had never seen concrete look so good. Ben is one of the hardest working men I know. I am so proud of him and all he is doing!

  3. I have never heard of a bull float and had to read slowly to make sure you were not talking about a real bull who floated...hey, you are in Africa...anything could happen there!!!!

It all looks great! That Ben is SOMETHING else, truly!
